English Language Arts and Soc. Studies GED
Instructor
Reports to: Principal
Reporting requirements: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (40
hours per week, some of which may be evening and
weekend hours)
Duties include:
- Maintain and continually improve basic skills and GED preparation curriculum for diverse group of 16-24 year olds.
- Teach basic skills and GED preparation classes.
- Serve as a mentor to 10-12 youth, meeting with them weekly and collaborating with their case managers to aide in their performance in the school.
- Develop syllabi and lesson plans for all classes.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of educational progress of youth, which includes preparing monthly educational progress reports on each youth, placing reports in their individual files, and entering the information in the database system.
- Prepare end of semester and end of the year assessments and report cards for all active enrollees.
- Prepare progress report and/or deficiency notices.
- Conduct parent conferences when required.
- Develop and implement instructional strategies for ELL and Spec Ed students.
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings and take an active role.
- Provide oversight, guidance, and leadership to the YouthBuild Student Leadership Council.
- Facilitate education team department meetings in the absence of the Principal.
- Provide oversight for the school in the absence of the Executive Director and Principal; during this time all disciplinary concerns will be referred to the case managers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Education or
English Literature with at least two years
experience in teaching basic skills and GED
preparation. Spanish fluency recommended. The
individual applying for this position must be
flexible, energetic, and resourceful. Furthermore
you must be committed to the development of youth
and education, and believe that all students can
achieve.
Note: The YouthBuild Public Charter School will be
implementing a high school diploma curriculum option
for the 2008-2009 school year. This position will
begin as a GED instructor for the 2008-2009 school
year, and during the 2009-2010 school year will
transition to teaching high school level English
Language Arts classes. By 2009 the applicant will
needed to meet No Child Left Behind highly qualified
teacher standards.
